IN THE ACT OF SEARCHING For Olivia

((The poem is for Olivia, I am not searching for Olivia.))

She searched for days

            in magazine articles

            Wikipedia pages

            phone books

            desk jobs

       and calendars.

She looked in

                        cracked doors

                        oriental rugs

                        table cloth patterns

                   and old wives tales.

She swam in rivers

        ate burnt food

        sang songs

and tried

         not

        to

       fall

        in

         love.

She hunted people

                    animals

                    clothes

                    books,

       poked plants

                 bodies of water

                 hospital beds

                 root canal appointment schedules,

       heard stories

                pleas

                whispers

                music.

And then she found something else.
